Keynote Speaker
Joe Trippi, heralded on the cover of The New Republic as the man who
«reinvented campaigning,» began his political career working on Edward
M. Kennedy’s presidential campaign in 1980. A mainstay in presidential
politics, Trippi has also worked on the presidential campaigns of,
Walter Mondale, Gary Hart, and Dick Gephardt. Most notably, he served
as campaign manager for presidential candidate and former Vermont
governor Howard Dean. Currently he is servicing as a strategic advisor
to John Edward’s campaign.

Heather Smith, Executive Director, Young Voter Strategies (YVS)
YVS is a nonpartisan project in partnership with The Graduate School
of Political Management at The George Washington University, that
provides the public, parties, candidates, consultants and nonprofits
with data and research on the youth vote as well as best practices to
effectively mobilize young people. In 2006, Smith and Young Voter
Strategies coordinated the nation’s largest non-partisan project to
register young voters using innovative and replicable methods of voter
outreach. The project registered over 540,000 youth ages 18-30 and
played a large role in the young voter turnout increase in 2006.

Premier Screening of «I’m 18 in 08» and Question/Answer Session with
David Burstein, Director and Producer
David D. Burstein, 18, is the Director and Producer of «I’m 18 in 08»,
a documentary film designed to promote and encourage more youth to
vote and get involved in the political process. Since 2004, David has
interviewed dozens of U.S. Senators, U.S. Representatives, political
experts, commentators, educational leaders, and students to find the
answers to question such as What can be done to increase youth
participation in politics? What issues are important to youth? Why
don’t more youth vote?. The film will be distributed in the summer of
2008 in a 50 state bus tour which will consist of screenings of the
film, and talk backs with candidates, students, and elected officials.
